The language La Scala was very represented this year in Devoxx with a session on the actors by Franck Sommers, other one on ScalaTest by Bill Venners or else that on the framework web Topspin by Timothy Perrett. This last unfortunately did not hold all his promises: the half of presentation was focused on the specificity of language and another part on already seen ChatDemo application there comet of David Pollack without real explanation of code, leaving as well as very few place for Topspin it even.
We will dedicate therefore a return to La Scala in two parts: the first one on the actors (present ticket) and the second on ScalaTest.

Sessions devoted to SOA were still present this year in Devoxx. Nicolai Josuttis enlivened a called presentation "SOA IN PRACTICE" just like the book name the author of which he is, published to O' Reilly.
Prerequisite of any presentation on SOA, Nicolai Josuttis begins by introducing all the concepts orbiting around orientated architecture services. We will pass on these recalls here, because in spite of some divergences in definitions, they find ideas described in the different articles concerning SOA that we could publish until then.
After this introduction, Nicolai Josuttis stopped on debates having agitated the small world of SOAISTES at the beginning of this year: did this model of architecture die? Was it only a fashion of passage? No, service concept keeps all its value for the firm and the continuation of its presentation, without hiding anything from defects of SOA, will show all its interest.
The continuation of presentation turns fast around the putting into practice of these concepts.

Session JavaFX was a chance to discover how to develop a JavaFX application. The presenter Stephen Chin, project manager of WidgetFX, offered us an introduction to the language of script JAVAFX.
Presentation seemed in my opinion more modest than presentations made the last year. The number of sessions JAVAFX is less important compared the previous year. Also no presentation in Keynote where Adobe seems to be put forward with its platform Flash.

For the second day of university, Emmanuel Bernard offers us one with a holistic approach of the product: what a research Full Text, the functioning of a research, annotations on our objects jobs and different researches possible. JBOSS DVD BLIND application used throughout session will allow to put forward research Full Text and different possible requests (batmen instead of batman).

Session Wicket initially envisaged on Tuesday morning having been cancelled, I attended at a presentation the place on effects FLEX. I thought that I could learn nothing any more on this subject, I made a mistake: the use of effects was simplified, and it is possible now to spread effects.
Always on sulphurous subject of Cloud Computing but this time side PaaS (Platform ace has Service), a special session Google App Engine is offered to us with the idea of developing a true application of management on the Cloud and of seeing difficulties met during development. And to cap it all, 3 technos forehead-end will be in competition: SPRING MVC, JSF 2.0 (very early adopt GWT 1.7 this time) and.

During the first day of Devoxx, two sessions were devoted to NOSQL: a short presentation (surplus) of 30 minutes during day followed by one OH WELL in form of debate of one hour in the evening. It will be the only incursion of this technology during week. It is besides possible to regret that this subject which goes up in power currently is not more present at it.
In the course of this day several dealers expressed themselves about NOSQL.
Steven Noels (photo opposite) is at the head of OuterThought, the editor of the CMS Daisy. He wants to bring some change in his product towards CMS leaning on a technology NOSQL to persist his data. Steven Noels therefore made share here the fruit of their studies on this subject.
, as for him, intervened at the end of day to make share its experience as user of HBase for 2 years.
One of the sessions very expected from this Devoxx 2009 (with JEE6) is JSF 2.0. A lot of specificity of JSF FIRST of the name discouraged many developers. So, JSF does not have very good reputation And it is necessary to catch this! It is anyway what comes out again from slides first from this presentation with the shock eye-catcher: JSF 2.0: it simple percentages not only us, it simple percentage you too!

After a small coffee reanimating, here is already to come the first sessions of the edition 2009 Devoxx and, the subject of this article, Kanban IN action by Olav Maassen.
After a small recall on the origins of word (which there kanji means kan=visuel and ban=tableau, card, chip), the second slide gives the tone of this conference which will be interactive (several practical jobs over 3 h) with a first question: give some daily examples of system Kanban. Several answers rush of which:
These examples turn around 2 principles: the capacity constraint (for example a motorway, always available but dependent on the flux) and availability non-instant (for example a ferryboat which once in sea is not available any more). One of the principles of Kanban is to return some visual things: to see the unavailability of hamburgers marked by a token is a good example.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (aka EC2), and in a general way AMAZON web Services, drew attention many people for the suppleness of deployment which they allow.
This deck of Cloud Computing has uses the virtualisation to create at the request of the authorities of directly usable servers. It is therefore about an approach completely different from traditional accommodations.
When they speak about EC2, it is often a matter of the deployment of Websites of type social networks that can know unforeseen pileated woodpeckers of traffic. The elasticity of shape is then put forward that EC2, by definition brings. On the other hand, it is seldom a matter of problems of high availability or of good practices to be followed for deployments of classical architectures multi-third.
Also, beyond elasticity, the justifications of deployment on EC2 are not much approached in general.
Chris Richardson, creator of CloudFoundry (recently bought back by SpringSource), gave us a very complete presentation on all these subjects seldom approached around Web Services of AMAZON.
